Life is Beautiful (La Vite e bella) our February 2019 film....

Blwyddyn Newydd Dda and welcome to the Spring season 2019 of Castle Films.

Directed by Roberto Benigni in 1997, this film is about a gentle Jewish-Italian waiter who meets a pretty schoolteacher, and wins her over with his charm and humour. Eventually they marry and have a son, Giosue. Their happiness is abruptly halted, however, when Guido and Giosue are separated from Dora and taken to a concentration camp. Determined to shelter his son from the horrors of his surroundings, Guido convinces Giosue that their time in the camp is merely a game. “This magnificent film gives us a glimpse of the Holocaust, but it is really about love, and the indomitability of humanity even in the midst of inhumanity.” The film will be shown in Italian with English subtitles

Film Friday... a community-led activity with recent films and old favourites being shown through the autumn and winter months from September to March. Showings are on the third Friday of the month and provide a high-quality, big-screen opportunity to see cinema with an audience in the Community Centre.

There is a bar, which opens before the film, and there is usually an interval which allows not just for replenishing glasses, but also the chance to meet and talk to other film-lovers. A small team affiliated to the Recreation Association meets to select the programme of films and also staffs the showings.

If you would like to be involved, receive updates or make suggestions for future films to be included in the 2018 - 2019 programme, please contact Eve Over on [01938 850388] or
